RJA #2: Research Topic

My topic is on whether the new wave of online homeschooling for K-12 is actually better than our public school systems.  I chose this topic because I, like most people, attended public school, but with technology increasing on a daily basis, children and parents have more options. Home schooling has always been an option but not that many parents had the time or money to stay home and educate their children. Today the internet makes it possible for anyone to teach their children at home.
What I already know about the topic is that home schooling has always been an option, but limited to families that could afford to take the time to educate their kids or families who lived to far away from public schools. There have always been social issues associated with home schooling, whether or not it isolated kids and did not help develop their needed social skills. At the same time, public schools take criticism for being too socially oriented. Most people did not have a good time in public school because of the social clicks and hierarchy of different social and racial groups which in turn impedes learning.
What I don’t know and would like to explore is if there is a flood of children of this coming generation who go to school online, how will this affect our society if they are taught little or no social skills because they were raised on a computer instead of playing with their friends? Will our society end up being a virtual place where no one talks face to face anymore? Will the computer be the only way that we learn and talk to our friends and family? What will become of our society as we start to close off  our lines of human contact?
